Speed skater Tommy Shimoda of Mount Greenwood won a gold medal Thursday in the 500-meter race at the Special Olympics World Winter Games. "Our team of specially abled has truly embodied what SOB stands for- to keep trying and emerge triumphant despite the odds", said Special Olympics Bharat, Air Marshal (Retd) Denzil Keelor.
Special Olympics hold world games every two years.
Special Olympics Ireland CEO Matt English remarked that Team Ireland's achievements were only possible with the support of volunteers, supporters and sponsors both at home and overseas. I listened to everything my coach said. With the support of more than 1 million coaches and volunteers, Special Olympics delivers 32 Olympic-type sports and over 108,000 games and competitions throughout the year.
Caolan's mother, Edel, said she was extremely proud of him: "He started two years ago in the Ski-ability club in Craigavon". Guests and viewers tuning in were treated to a visual extravaganza that highlighted the culture of current host Austria, as well as an array of entertainment centred around the values and cultural themes of the United Arab Emirates.
"Olympics are the dream of an athlete and a medal in Olympics is the crowning glory moment for the athlete".

Houk had a stellar first day of competition. "Thank you for standing up for them!" one person wrote. "I was just more relaxed, I think I did really well".
"When we left our country, everybody gave us courage that we will uphold the flag, our pride and the national anthem of our country", said unified partner Ivy Aktar Orin, 15.
"They have done themselves and their country incredibly proud returning two gold, three silver and three bronze medals".
"The boys make us stronger", Urmi said.
The team were greeted by family and friends as they proudly displayed their medals - and participation ribbons for fourth and fifth place finishes.
