Unemployment rate in state highest in 20 months

The Vermont Department of Labor says the state's unemployment rate inched down last month to 3 percent. The educational and health services category had the largest increase at 400 jobs while the financial activities sector had the largest job loss at 400 jobs.

February's employment data put a damper on the state's economic performance in January.

From February 2016 to February 2017, the total job base only grew by 2,100 - such a small percentage that it could be indistinguishable from zero.

The Georgia Department of Labor on Thursday released the new jobless numbers, which are from February.

"Having the fourth lowest unemployment rate in the state means that 155 counties have higher unemployment rates than Cherokee County".

Data from previous years show a trend of high unemployment rates to start out the year.

Jobless rates went down in all of South Carolina's 46 counties except two, where it was unchanged.

In February 2017 IL surpassed its previous jobs peak from September 2000. Furthermore, Illinois has struggled with out-migration and is losing many working-age adults to other states, resulting in a smaller labor force. The number of employed people increased by 10,512, while the number of unemployed workers decreased by 12,283. February's preliminary rate is unchanged from a year ago.

A job sector with some sensitivity to the weather was the hardest hit: the leisure and hospitality industry shed 3,200 jobs.

Nationally, U.S. employers added 235,000 jobs in February while MA gained 10,100.
