The South Carolina Gamecocks are allowing 30.4 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 32.4 rebounds per game.

A couple more great games in conjunction with his near-unicorn-ness will make his potential stardom more feasible.

Even ESPN college basketball anaylst Dick Vitale affirmed Thornwell was worthy of all the praise. "Like after shootaround, we're leaving an arena, we get on Snapchat now and be like: Farewell Tour, we out".

If you filled out your bracket and had this Baylor vs SC matchup set for the Sweet 16, you're either a Gamecocks fan or a major Duke hater.

"But you can't really look back at the game and take anything from it", Walz said after Louisville defeated Tennessee, 75-64, in the second round on Sunday.

Back on campus there were kids swimming in the fountain outside Thomas Cooper Library.

The SEC in general and SEC basketball in particular remain close to Whitworth's heart so you can imagine how he feels this week. Over the next 24 hours, the media relations department was inundated with hundreds of requests.

Frank Martin's intensity is no secret. In the past four years, SEC programs have hired Rick Barnes (Tennessee), Bruce Pearl (Auburn) and Ben Howland (Mississippi State), who have coached in a combined 90 NCAA tournament games. The most recent one was in 2014 when the Bears were eliminated by Wisconsin.

If they handed out a Most Outstanding Player award for the first two rounds of the tournament, it might go to South Carolina's Sindarius Thornwell.

It's fitting that Thornwell is the cornerstone of South Carolina's arrival on the national scene, as the Lancaster native was the most important commitment of Frank Martin's tenure with the Gamecocks.

The Gamecocks are home to SEC Player of the Year, 6'5 senior guard Sindarius Thornwell. It lost to Kentucky in the 1948 championship game. But the Gamecocks were unafraid and unrelenting, forcing 18 Blue Devils turnovers to fuel not only their offense but their egos. He said the first two years were the hardest. "He's their man player on the team, the go-to guy, can do everything. But we'll compete", Mulkey said.

"At every corner, I had to stop and hear a conversation or take a selfie", he said.

And so they did, and so they have received the spoils of this month's spotlight.

As the Duke Blue Devils can attest this week, he's certainly become pretty good at developing basketball players. Otherwise it was another successful year for Drew's program.

"I got the phone call from him telling me, 'I want to do this with you, ' when he could have gone to some of the bluebloods - but he wanted to help us build", Martin said Thursday. "For our family, for our state. And hopefully it just keeps leading us to the right direction and to winning".

No. 3 seed Baylor vs. For Thornwell, McKie, and Notice, the game represents something like a narrative arc. The Baylor Bears have won five of their last six neutral site games.

"One of the things I have thought a lot about since I became commissioner is that we should be better at men's basketball", said Greg Sankey, who took over as the SEC commissioner previous year.

Whitworth said it was a group effort from the start. But all that's in the past right now. As junior guard Kasey Hill put it, "Just got to stick to playing our defense and that's about it. And then we had a lot of games where we could have won, but we just were so young and didn't hardly finish games", he said. The tour is not done yet.
