Starz has unveiled a new trailer for American Gods that's full of gorgeous fantasy imagery and gothic drama.
The new clip previews the mysterious path of McShane's protagonist.
"Adapted from the award-winning novel, "American Gods" stars Ricky Whittle ("The 100", "Austenland") as Shadow Moon; Ian McShane ("Deadwood", "Ray Donovan") as Mr. Wednesday; Emily Browning ("Sucker Punch", "Legend") as Laura Moon and Pablo Schreiber ("Orange is the New Black") as Mad Sweeney". Mr. Wednesday seeks to build a coalition of Old Gods to defend their existence in this new America, and reclaim some of the influence that they've lost.
The teaser also showcases some disturbing, Lynchian visuals: bloody beaches, rain pouring on corpses, eerie caves and a zombie-like woman walking down a picturesque suburban street while clutching her chopped-off arm.
As for the things we don't get a look at - like Gillian Anderson as Media or Dane Cook as Shadow Moon's bro in arms - we'll just have to wait until the show premieres on April 30. It's a world where magic is real, where the Old Gods fear both irrelevance and the growing power of the New Gods, like Technology and Media. Bryan Fuller and Michael Green are writers and showrunners. David Slade (HANNIBAL) will direct the pilot in addition to other episodes. SVPs of original programming Marta Fernandez and Ken Segna are the Starz executives in charge of "American Gods". This first trailer does a pretty admirable job representing the breadth of characters and settings and battles of the novel while plotting out the basic premise.
