Redskins considering NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock for GM role

Mayock interviewed for a job under Al Davis and the Raiders years ago but his profile has risen publicly in the last few years with his work on NFL Network.

Less than 24 hours after firing general manager Scot McCloughan, the Washington Redskins are considering hiring NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock to fill the vacancy. The move left Washington without a GM just as free agency was beginning-i.e. right when it's most important to have a GM.

If Mayock were to be hired by Washington, it would be somewhat of a risky proposition for the team.

Maycock played three seasons in the NFL. Since then he has worked in television, covering mostly college football and basketball, including a five-year stint as NBC color commentator for Notre Dame football. Regardless, there's no outright denial lurking in Mayock's statement, nor a claim that the report of candidacy is #fakenews.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik is reportedly among those being considered for the position as well.
