We lost a young man who had great potential and promise who we brought here with a specific mission of preparing him to become a leader of his generation.
A 23-year-old former Franklin Park resident and student at the University of IL in Champaign died late Friday after falling off a balcony, authorities said.
'Upon arrival to the scene, the individual, who was later identified as 23-year-old University of IL student Jonathan Morales, was found unresponsive.
Police said he had been drinking with friends and was "fooling around" on the balcony.
Morales was transported to the hospital, where he later died. Toxicology tests are pending'.
Police say Morales' death appears to be accidental, but the investigation continues as they await autopsy results. He was later identified as 23-year-old Jonathan Morales.
The student's devastated father Rudy told friends of his heartache on Saturday night, describing how he wanted to "trade places" with his son.
Of note the University of IL has been named the No. 1 party school for 2016 in the Princeton Review's annual list of top party schools. The article reported that the university tries every year to keep the event under control, often beefing up police presence and, in 2013, even asking parents to help them tone down the partying.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist Morales' family with funeral expenses.
Morales was a communications major and a former Franklin Park resident. The event is held a week before St Patrick's Day before students go on Spring Break.
