Biloxi city spokesman Vincent Creel said as many as 50 people were on the bus.
There were reportedly 50 people on the bus, and most have sustained injuries.
A train has collided with a charter bus at a railroad crossing on Main Street in Biloxi, Mississippi. He said authorities believe the bus was stopped on the tracks at the time of the crash, but they don't yet know why.
According to WLOX, the charter bus originated in Austin and was nearing its final destination at Biloxi.
Visual evidence and eye witness testimony indicate the train "t-boned" the bus on the tracks.
The accident happened at around 2 p.m. local time (3 p.m. ET).
"It's a awful, chaotic scene", Miller said.
The bus was marked as belonging to Echo Transportation, which Texas corporate records show is a unit of a company called TBL Group, based in Grand Prairie, near Dallas. Crews were seen removing people through the emergency windows. Medical personnel from the nearby Keesler Air Force Base were also assisting with the rescue.
