Both the BJP and the Shiv Sena do not have a clear mandate. We will help the Shiv Sena candidates.
"We will not be in the opposition, we will support the ruling party but will not compromise on transparency", Fadnavis said, according to ABP Live.
After the BMC election threw up a fractured result the political impasse continued between the two parties even as the leaders from both factions tried their best to find a formula to keep the situation calm. Senior Sena leader and Maharashtra's transport minister Diwakar Raote said the Sena welcomed the chief minister's statement.
The Shiv Sena had won 84 and BJP 82 corporators in recent BMC election. The BJP had won 82 seats, while the Sena had bagged 84. "We will respect the verdict of the people", Fadnavis said. "We have made a decision to work as the gatekeepers of transparency, the position which will be followed by all our corporators".
"If they require any votes, the BJP is ready to offer support to the Shiv Sena", he told media persons here.
The BJP-Sena relations, as partners in the state and central government, hit a new low in the backdrop of civic elections across Maharashstra, which saw the saffron parties contesting separately and hurling charges at each other. The committee would have Ramanath Jha, Sharad Kale and Gautam Chatterjee as members and the committee would submit its report in the next three months. Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Ashok Chavan said, "During the campaign, BJP had accused Sena of extortion, corruption and mafia activities". "While Uddhav Thackeray had earlier declared that the Sena would henceforth have no electoral alliance with the BJP, should these parties come together even at the zilla parishad level, things could become very hard for us", said a senior NCP leader. "We are here to stay", he said.
Fadnavis also announced that the government would appoint an addituonal Upa-Lokayukta to ensure "transparency" in the conduct of BMC.
Meanwhile, Bala Nandgaonkar, former MLA of Raj Thackeray-led MNS, said that his party would be happy if a Sena Mayor gets elected.
Sena's candidate for Mayor is Vishvanath Mahadeshwar and Hareshwar Worlikar is Deputy Mayor nominee. "Unlike the original scheme, the project-affected persons in BMC projects as well as slum dwellers on BMC-owned land will be given priority and will be rehabilitated before others", said Vishwasrao.
