Most of IL, along with parts of Indiana, Missouri, Iowa and Arkansas were placed under tornado watches.
Deadly storms that ripped through the Midwest Tuesday are expected to affect 75 million Americans from the South to Northeast. They will develop ahead of a cold front that will push east across the area overnight.
A tornado watch was in effect for both Will and Grundy counties until 10 p.m. Tuesday night.
Farther south in Jackson County there were reports of minor injuries and damaged homes between Ava and Elkville, according to the Southern Illinoisan. Power outages are now affecting 139,864 customers in Tennessee, Arkansas, Indiana, Missouri and IL.
"Tornadoes did a lot of damage [in LaSalle County] yesterday", Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner said Wednesday in a video posted to Twitter, adding that he will travel across the state to visit affected areas Wednesday and Thursday. At least one person was killed and others were injured after powerful winds lifted cars off the ground on tossed them around on Interstate 55.
At Ottawa, Illinois, state Emergency Management Agency spokeswoman Patti Thompson says the tornado victim was killed by an uprooted tree. There were no serious injuries.
In Arkansas, an apparent tornado damaged at least 40 homes in the town of Higginson, KARK-TV reports.
Recovery operations continue Wednesday morning. Investigators will assess damage to determine whether a tornado touched ground in OR as well.
A nursing home in La Salle County, Illinois, also suffered damage from the storms but reported their residents were all accounted for and safe.
