The specifics of what exactly happened are unknown.

It's important to note that Smith, 27, hasn't been arrested or charged at this point, and both parties are cooperating with law enforcement. Smith was not reinstated during the 2016 season - a decision made by the National Football League that was not well received by the Raiders - and he now may be in trouble again.

Police in San Francisco have an open investigation into a domestic violence incident regarding Oakld Raiders pass rusher Aldon Smith. National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell has complete power in regards to reinstatement, with no formal timetable to act.

Smith, who signed with the Raiders in 2015, filed for reinstatement to the league October 3 before meeting with commissioner Roger Goodell.

Smith had been quiet in 2017, but was seen in an Instagram Live video recorded by Bay Area News Group saying, "I'm back, and there's nobody who can stop me". He was released by the Niners in August 2015 following his fifth arrest since 2011 and third on suspicion of drunken driving.

When he's one the field, Smith has shown flashes of greatness, especially during his four seasons with the 49ers. He last played a full season in 2012 for the 49ers, and was selected to the Pro Bowl after making 66 tackles with 19.5 sacks in 16 games.

A team spokesman said the Raiders had no comment.
