WASHINGTON -Today, the Senate voted to confirm Linda McMahon to lead the Small Business Administration.
The 81-19 vote in favor bucked a recent trend among President Donald Trump's Cabinet nominees.
"Congratulations to Linda McMahon on her confirmation as head of the Small Business Administration, " said Sen.
McMahon served as the chief executive officer at World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. before stepping down to run twice for the Senate in CT.
"Small businesses have had some tough blows in the last decade", McMahon said in her opening remarks.
"Congratulations to Linda McMahon on her confirmation as head of the Small Business Administration", said Murphy in a statement according to Fox61."As I've said before, while Linda and I haven't always seen eye-to-eye, I look forward to working with her to help small businesses in CT".
She spoke emotionally about a previous enterprise that resulted in bankruptcy in 1976, and how the McMahons lost their home and saw their auto towed from the driveway. Here are some of the agenda items that may top McMahon's list as she takes on the almost $30 billion a year the SBA manages in government-backed small business loans and programs to support small business owners.
"We've known our share of differences, but I've never questioned her unwavering drive and focus", Blumenthal said at the hearing.
On Monday, President Trump hosted a group of female business leaders at the White House along with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, suggesting the administration is focused on the issue as well - a good sign for McMahon's agenda. Add your take in the comments section below.
