LOS ANGELES, CA - FEBRUARY 12: Recording artist Chance The Rapper performs onstage during The 59th GRAMMY Awards at STAPLES Center on February 12, 2017 in Los Angeles, California.

Chance's acceptance of the Grammy was a heartwarming moment, especially in his speech and acknowledging those who helped him get to where he is.

Chance the Rapper's meteoric rise continues: The Chicago MC has locked in a Palace of Auburn Hills show on May 18 as part of his first arena headlining tour. All those albums were backed-and heavily marketed-by major record labels; Chance released Coloring Book on his own with no promotion.

"I know people think that independence means you do it by yourself, but independence means freedom", Chance said as he pointed to members of his team.

Having taken out "Best New Artist", "Best Performance" and "Best Rap Album", Chance's phone was no doubt blowing up like a Note 7, but he chose a couple of particularly big shout outs to share with fans - namely, Kendrick Lamar.

You might remember that Chance the Rapper began his "Magnificent Coloring World Tour" previous year right here in San Diego at SDSU's Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre on September 15 - and we're stoked to have him back so soon. Before the show began, he also got the Grammy for best rap performance for his hit track "No Problem".
