The person who spoke to the AP on Tuesday on condition of anonymity because the discussions were to remain private says the former Knicks star who was arrested at a game last week is welcome back at the arena. In 56 games with the Magic, Ibaka has averaged 15 points, seven rebounds, 1.6 blocks per game, while shooting 38% from beyond the arc. He's been prone to rough mental collapses (see the end of Game 4 of the 2016 Eastern Conference Semis), and the Raptors have netted out worse with Ross on the court each season prior to this one.
A three-time All-Defensive First Team selection during his time in Oklahoma City, Ibaka didn't have a transformative defensive impact during his short stint in Orlando. And if the Raptors opt to go small, Ibaka can easily move up to center and provide those same benefits. Toronto was said to be the ideal landing spot for Ibaka, so the Raptors appear to have the edge in re-signing him to a long-term deal. Following the game, both Lowry and fellow All-Star DeMar DeRozan made comments that alluded to pointing the blame at their coach, and suggested that personnel changes may be required to salvage them from thri current funk.
Still, the Raptors make out like bandits in this deal.
The Raptors traded Terrence Ross and the lower of their two first-round picks, their own and that of the Los Angeles Clippers, in exchange for Serge Ibaka.
Ibaka was acquired by the Magic on the night of the National Basketball Association draft when the team sent the Oklahoma City Thunder Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis. Ibaka can fill the void left by Bismack Biyombo who also signed with Orlando last summer.
The Toronto Raptors are finally making a move at the Cleveland Cavaliers. Ross is in the first year of a three-year, $31 million contract. He is 27 years old, can be a defensive force and is basically a rental for the Raptors.
