West Ham have pleaded with the French global to see through the season with them, as they desperately fight to climb the table, and have agreed to sell him this summer - but he has refused.
The French attacking midfielder was a revelation for the Hammers last season, scoring nine goals and adding 12 assists while being named to the PFA Team of the Year.
However, all has not been rosy this campaign.
The transfer policy of Premier League side West Ham United has been well documented in the early days of January, and the tactics of how they are going about their business have been heavily scrutinised by loyal Hammers fans and the outer football community.
"We have said we don't want to sell our best players but Payet does not want to play for us". It's not a money issue or anything.
They find themselves seven points above the relegation zone with 18 matches left to play and, without the mercurial Payet in their ranks, appear to be in real danger of being dragged into a proverbial dogfight.
'Two days ago, he and I had a meeting.
'What I mean, though, is, for example, when a team has a player sent off, somehow that often gives the rest of the players more energy, they dig deeper'.
Despite the current stand-off Bilic says he has no intention of selling the player and that Payet can return to the team. "I said what I needed to say in my news conference yesterday, although I do understand that many West Ham fans will be reading this today and will feel as disappointed as I do that it has come to this".
Bilic's bad summer signings; Gokhan Tore, Simone Zaza, Jonathan Callieri; all forgotten as the vitriol will be aimed at the bloke who wore the "27" shirt for a year or so but now wants to leave. "We want to keep our best players". Payet responded to the rejected offer by telling club officials he would "never kick a ball again for West Ham", according to The Telegraph.
Payet has reportedly had his head turned by his former club Marseille, with the midfielder reportedly keen on returning to France.
"He was one of the best players in the Premier League last season".
"He wouldn't make a stand like that unless the club was interested".
Humanitarian Terry Waite has led calls from the worldwide community for West Ham United to release Dimitri Payet, who is now being held against his will.
