The forecast calls for freezing rain, possibly mixed with sleet, to spread across west-central IL and result in accumulations of up to a quarter of an inch of ice with more possible south of Interstate 72.
Parts of Kansas, Missouri, Illinois and Texas are under a winter storm watch.
A low around 34 Sunday night, with rain or freezing rain likely before 7 p.m. and rain likely after that.
In December 2007, a storm covered the region with up to 1 inch of ice, causing thousands of power outages.
"Ice accumulations will begin on elevated surfaces, including trees and power lines", meteorologists state in a winter weather watch.
National Weather Service in Norman says the Enid area could receive a quarter inch to one inch of ice from Friday through Sunday. A freezing rain advisory is expected to start at 3 p.m. today and remain in effect until noon Sunday.
Motorists in the area could possibly encounter ice on roads this weekend. Bridges and overpasses will be most susceptible to ice accretion.
"If there's a need for additional generators, we want them to be available", Cain said. "But it's better to be safe than sorry".
"If we do get up to a quarter inch of ice accumulation that's going to be really unsafe, because that's when you start to get the tree limbs and power lines snapping", Rainson said. Precipitation is forecast to fall in waves Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Concern about the storm prompted Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens to activate the state Emergency Operations Center.
Ameren Illinois suggests these measures customers should take to prepare for a power outage or loss of natural gas service, which are similar to those needed to prepare for any emergency situation. An additional executive order signed by the governor waives licensing requirements for vehicles assisting with storm relief.
"I think people are trying to be prepared, especially with the reports on this storm", she said.
This is the same storm system that brought heavy snow and rainfall to northern California.
